It really depends on what it is you are trying to accomplish. If your goal is best quality, simply lower the RF value. If you are trying to optimize quality for size, placebo is overkill TBH. There's literally no visible benefit to many of the settings in placebo. The built-in presets for x264 and x265 are pretty well thought out already. Certain types of source material may benefit from some particular tweak to settings, but the same tweak can result in a worse outcome for other source types. The presets are pretty well balanced. If you are looking to reduce file size, consider using a light to medium denoise filter for grainy sources. That will reduce file size for such sources much more than any codec setting you could use. |

Description of the feature or enhancement you'd like to see in HandBrake
Hello
Sorry, but I didn't find a proper section to ask questions so...I'm looking for somebody with lots of knowledge, probably one of the devs even?
I was using another software with more tuning options but now, since switched to HB, mostly use placebo (x264) preset and select the resolution/tune.
So I wonder if I should dig deeper into the settings and custom console commands, does it make any significant impact on the quality/possible to improve upon basic placebo preset?
For example many extra commands like --psy-rd --psy-rdoq --rdoq-level --rd 4 instead of --rd 6 --rskip 2 --rskip-threshold 3 --ipratio --pbratio deblock -2:-2 etc
Maybe there is a comparison/review/guide on that topic? Some specific forum on topic?
