Selecting flexbox after adding children elements is very difficult

Once you add elements to a flexbox that occupies the entire width.
I've had to get around this issue by adding a buffer element which doesn't occupy the complete space of the flexbox, so there's some visual area remaining where I can hover over the flexbox only.
