Steps to reproduce

  1. Try to install the app from Google Play

Expected behaviour

App can be installed because it targets an older Android version.

Actual behaviour

App cannot be installed.

I see that the code in this repository already targets API 33 and is under very active development. By not pushing this to Google Play (or maybe only on the beta channel?), the app is probably losing its users.

From my contributions to open-source apps, I know how annoying the "please make a release" type issues are. However, I also know that (at least for me) the motivation behind doing open-source is to reach/help many users. Not being able to download the app limits this goal significantly.

@menny Given that users cannot download the app anymore even though it is under active development, then why is the app under active development? Just for the existing (probably shrinking) user base? Has this project transitioned to a personal app without the goal to bring it to users (I have such apps as well, but that's usually not the ones I spend so much time on maintaining as you do on ASK)? I don't really understand what is going on here.

Android OS version: 14

Device manufacturer and model: OnePlus 7T

List of installed add-ons (like languages, or themes): German language

Have you tried F-Droid?

Have you tried F-Droid?

That's not addressing the primary concern of the ticket, which clarifying the target audience of the app. If it is just FOSS afficionados ASK is targeting, distribution through F-Droid is fine. If ASK wants to be an alternative general use Android keyboard, it needs to be available in Google Play Store.

Can someone tune up the "Actions" here to build ASK in it?

Bizarrely enough, the latest beta version's changelog claims to have added Android 14 support, yet the beta itself cannot be downloaded on Android 14 because of the Android version cap...
